Discover Merida - the historical treasure of Mexico

Ask any tourist who think that, in Mexico, when they hear "and most will say, Acapulco, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta for sun lovers are. The more tourist destinations because of their location on the sea. Mexico City is known for its lively markets, cafes, culture and historical sites known. But there is another goal that is increasingly popular with tourists and the Mexican people themselves. ... The city of Merida, a place that offers thethe authentic taste of Mexico, right in the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Known as the "White City" because of many buildings painted white Merida, originally founded by a Spanish explorer Francisco de Montejo, 6 Januar 1542 Merida is a great Mayan city built as I have known. Today, Merida is the modern capital and largest city in the Mexican state of Yucatan and the Yucatan peninsula. It is considered one of the most peaceful and safe in Mexico, despite thegrowing population of 1,658,210. Its geographical position makes it an ideal starting point for those of surrounding villages, Mayan pyramids, haciendas and beaches to explore love. The people of Merida and Yucatan are warm and hospitable and very proud of their heritage.

This charming colonial city has much to do and see. Paseo Montejo Merida is the main street, lined with beautiful old buildings, monuments and exquisite villas of the 19th Century. A horse drawn carriage will take youback in time at historical sites, such as exploring the Cathedral of San Ildefonso, built in 1561 - 1599, the oldest cathedral in the Americas. Directly opposite the town hall was built in 1735. On the south side stands the Casa de Montejo, the former residence of the conqueror of Yucatan, built 1542 craft markets and street shows pride Yucatan dress, dance, music and folklore, and the shape of the living transmission of Merida.

Southwest of Merida, on the coast is the village of Celestun, where a boat takes you to see hundreds of flamingos. From March to August this beautiful pink flamingos abandoned their nests in the Reserve Rio Lagartos and Celestun fly to the plankton rich waters of eating there, creating an island of pink.

Aeast of Merida, the famous Mayan pyramids of Chichen Itza, from 1553 years are only one of the ruined sites accessible to tourists.
